Short answer: the right BigSpy alternative depends on which of BigSpy’s three weak spots pushed you out — network coverage, data freshness, or the interface.

  • You need one archive deep enough to research a niche properlyAdSpy, one flat plan at $149/month (adspy.com, checked 2026-08-08), Facebook and Instagram only.
  • Your product research lives on TikTokPiPiAds, entry plan listed at $49/month on the monthly toggle (pipiads.com, checked 2026-08-08).
  • You want Meta plus TikTok plus Shopify shops in one indexMinea, $49 / $99 / $199 per month (minea.com, checked 2026-08-08).
  • The 2010s-era interface is the actual problemForeplay, from $59/month (foreplay.co, checked 2026-08-08), built around saving and organising creatives rather than searching a database.
  • You want the freshest data at zero cost → the platforms’ own ad libraries, which every paid tool ultimately reads from.
  • You sell on Amazon and want ad data about Amazon → none of the above index Amazon ads; SmartScout does, but only on its top tier.

What BigSpy actually is, and where sellers hit its limits

BigSpy positions itself as a broad, low-cost ad database. Its own site markets coverage of nine networks by name — “Facebook AdSpy,” “Instagram AdSpy,” “TikTok AdSpy,” “YouTube AdSpy,” “Twitter AdSpy,” “Pinterest AdSpy,” “AdMob AdSpy,” “Yahoo AdSpy” and “Unity AdSpy” (bigspy.com, checked 2026-08-08). Breadth is the pitch: one subscription, most of the paid-social surface, starting near free.

Pricing is where it gets awkward to verify. BigSpy’s pricing page renders its plan cards through client-side scripts, and our automated capture on 2026-08-08 returned only the page navigation — no plan names, no prices.

AI browser test (2026-08-08, automated public-page capture, not long-term human use): the fetched page body contained only “HOME ADSPY FEATURES PRICING RESOURCE EN LOGIN REGISTER”.

So treat the numbers you see quoted around the web as third-party information, not confirmed by us: review and coupon sites in August 2026 consistently describe a free tier, a Basic plan around $9/month, a Pro plan around $99/month (cheaper on longer commitments), a Group plan around $249/month, and an enterprise tier quoted in the low thousands per year. Check the live page before you buy.

The complaints are easier to source. Trustpilot reviewers keep returning to three themes — price-to-value, repeated results, and the interface:

“There are cheaper options on the market. And sometimes the website takes way too long to load.” — Trustpilot, 2 stars, 2026-06-11

“This software is archaic with a very old looking user interface …” — Trustpilot, 1 star, 2024-04-23

“it shows 6 pages of same exact video, then the next 6 pages show the same exact second video” — Trustpilot, 1 star, 2020-04-09, on the $9 plan

A large share of the one-star reviews in the same Trustpilot sample (2020 through 2026) describe being charged after cancelling a trial and getting no response to refund requests. That is user-reported and unverified by us; BigSpy’s current trial and refund terms are the thing to read before entering a card.

How these BigSpy alternatives were compared

Four criteria, in the order they usually decide the purchase:

  1. Network coverage — which ad platforms are actually indexed, not which logos appear on the homepage.
  2. Data freshness — how close the index sits to the platform’s own live library.
  3. Interface and workflow — whether results can be saved, tagged and handed to a designer, or only scrolled.
  4. True cost — entry price, what the discount column really is (annual, quarterly, or a countdown promo), and seat limits.

Every price below comes from the vendor’s own pricing page on 2026-08-08, with the monthly and discounted columns kept separate. See the scorecard methodology for how our tool ratings are built.

AdSpy: one flat price, one platform, maximum depth

AdSpy takes the opposite position to BigSpy: no ladder of tiers, no free entry. Its site states a single plan — “We offer virtually unlimited usage for just $149 per month!” — and adds that this is “an introductory offer and will not be the same for long” (adspy.com, checked 2026-08-08). No free trial is advertised anywhere on that page.

Coverage is narrow by design: Facebook and Instagram. If your products sell on Meta traffic, that narrowness is the feature — you are paying for depth of one archive instead of a thin slice of nine. If TikTok is where your category moves, AdSpy is the wrong purchase at any price.

The practical filter is simple arithmetic. AdSpy costs roughly what BigSpy’s Pro tier costs, plus half again. It is worth it only if you run enough searches per month that result quality, not result count, is your bottleneck.

PiPiAds: TikTok-first, metered in credits

PiPiAds indexes TikTok advertising and markets itself on that focus. Its pricing page on 2026-08-08 showed four options on the monthly toggle, all with struck-through list prices and a running “Flash Sale” countdown:

PlanList priceShown priceCreditsUsers
Basic$69/mo$49/mo30,0001
Advanced$159/mo$99/mo100,0001
Enterprise$1,999/mo$900/mo1,000,00010
Flexiblefrom $180/mo200K (slider)2 (slider)

The page also offers an “Annually” toggle labelled “Save 30%” (pipiads.com, checked 2026-08-08).

Two structural details matter more than the headline. First, PiPiAds meters usage in credits, not searches — the Basic card states “Cost 1 credits / data” and “Cost 20 credits / detail”, so opening full detail on an ad is twenty times more expensive than listing it. Thirty thousand credits sounds generous until you price a research session in detail views. Second, ad tracking is tiered separately: 2 trackers on Basic, 10 on Advanced, 100 on Enterprise.

Whether the flash-sale price is the real price is unanswerable from outside — countdown timers that reset are common in this category. Budget against the list price and treat the discount as a bonus.

Minea: the multi-network middle ground

Minea covers Meta ads, TikTok ads and Shopify shops in one index, with plans at $49, $99 and $199 per month, quoted lower on quarterly billing at $39, $79 and $158 per month (minea.com, checked 2026-08-08). That puts its entry tier at the same level as PiPiAds and well under AdSpy.

The catch is at the bottom of the ladder rather than the top. As documented in our Minea review , the Starter tier excludes a large part of what buyers assume they are paying for, and Minea’s terms state there is no refund once an order is complete. If you are cross-shopping Minea against BigSpy on price alone, compare the tier that actually contains TikTok data, not the cheapest row.

Minea is also unambiguously an ecommerce and dropshipping tool, not an Amazon one. That is fine if you are sourcing products by watching which creatives get paid traffic — the workflow travels to Amazon private label perfectly well — but do not expect Amazon-native data.

Foreplay: the answer when the interface is the problem

“Archaic,” in the review quoted above, is the most under-rated reason people leave BigSpy. Ad databases are search tools; creative teams need a library. Foreplay is built for the second job — saving ads into a swipe file, grouping them into briefs, and tracking specific brands over time.

Its pricing page lists Basic $59/month (1 user, $20 per additional user), Workflow $175/month (up to 5 users), and Agency $459/month (up to 10 users), with annual billing at $49, $149 and $389 per month respectively and an Enterprise tier at custom pricing. A “7 Day Free Trial” with “No credit card required” is advertised (foreplay.co, checked 2026-08-08).

Coverage is the widest of any paid tool here in terms of named sources: “Meta Ad Library,” Instagram Organic, “TikTok Ad Library & Top Ads,” TikTok Organic, “LinkedIn Ad Library,” YouTube Shorts and “Google Transparency Center” (foreplay.co, checked 2026-08-08). Note what that list reveals — Foreplay is largely an interface over the platforms’ own public libraries, which is exactly why its data is fresh and exactly why it is not the tool for digging up ads that stopped running two years ago.

The free freshness baseline: Meta Ad Library and TikTok Creative Center

Every paid tool in this comparison is downstream of the platforms’ own libraries. Meta publishes an ad library covering ads running across its apps; TikTok publishes a Creative Center with a Top Ads section. Both are free and both are, by definition, the freshest possible source — a third-party index can only ever be as current as its last crawl. TikTok’s Top Ads listing renders without signing in, and its filters are Region, Objective, Ad Language, Ad Format and Likes — no spend filter, no shop filter (ads.tiktok.com, checked 2026-08-08).

What you give up is search structure: no cross-network view, no saved swipe files, no filtering by estimated spend or by shop. The honest test before paying for any BigSpy alternative is to spend an hour in the free libraries first. If an hour of that produces the creative angles you needed, the $49–$149 per month buys you convenience, not information. If you hit a wall — no way to sort by spend, no way to save, no way to see a Shopify shop behind the ad — that wall is what the paid tools sell.

For sellers moving into TikTok traffic specifically, our guide to Amazon and TikTok advertising covers the campaign side that ad research feeds into.

SmartScout: the Amazon-native gap none of these fill

Here is the mismatch Amazon sellers run into: BigSpy, AdSpy, PiPiAds, Minea and Foreplay all index social ads. None of them index Amazon Sponsored Products. If your question is “which keywords are my competitors bidding on inside Amazon,” this whole category is the wrong shelf.

SmartScout is the Amazon-side answer, at $29 Basic / $97 Essentials / $187 Business per month, or $25 / $75 / $158 billed annually, plus a custom Enterprise tier (smartscout.com, checked 2026-08-08). One caveat on those figures: on the day we checked, that page served two different price sets to different sessions — the one above, and a second set at $29 / $99 / $239 per month. Check what your own browser shows before you budget. But be precise about which tier carries the ad data: the plan comparison table marks Search Terms Ad Spy as Enterprise-only, and the Enterprise card is where Competitor Ad Data and Competitor Ad Spend are listed. The $187 Business card does not list any Ad Spy feature. Note also that SmartScout’s own pages disagree in places about which tier includes what, so the comparison table’s checkmarks are the reference to use.

If Amazon ad intelligence is the actual requirement, budget for a custom quote, not a $29 plan. Our SmartScout alternatives comparison covers the cheaper routes to the non-ad parts of that dataset.

Also worth knowing: Dropispy is a long-running low-cost Meta-focused option that sellers often shortlist next to BigSpy — see our Dropispy review . Its site lists a Free tier at $0.00/month, Premium at $29.90/month with 150,000 credits per month ($14.90/month on the annual column, labelled “-50%”), and Business at $249.90/month with 1,800,000 credits (dropispy.com, checked 2026-08-08). Like PiPiAds, it meters in credits rather than searches, so compare the credit allowance and not just the sticker.

Data freshness: what “updated daily” actually means

Every tool in this category claims fresh data, and the claim is nearly unfalsifiable from the outside. Three questions separate the marketing from the mechanism:

  1. Is the index built from the platform’s public library, or from crawling? Tools that name the Meta Ad Library and TikTok Ad Library as sources — Foreplay does so explicitly — inherit the platform’s own freshness. Tools that crawl at their own cadence do not.
  2. Does the archive keep ads after they stop running? Depth and freshness pull in opposite directions. AdSpy’s pitch is the historical archive; the free libraries mostly show what is live now.
  3. Are you seeing new ads or the same ads re-served? The repeated-results complaint in the BigSpy reviews above is the failure mode to watch for on any cheap tier — low result caps plus weak deduplication feel identical to a stale database.

Run the same narrow query in a free platform library and in the paid tool during any trial. If the paid tool returns ads the free library does not, you are buying an archive. If it returns the same ads in a nicer table, you are buying an interface — a legitimate purchase, but priced differently.

Which one fits your workflow

  • Meta-only research, budget above $100/month → AdSpy. One archive, one price, no tier games.
  • TikTok product research → PiPiAds, budgeted against the $69 list price rather than the promo, with credit burn checked in the first week.
  • Cross-network dropshipping discovery → Minea, on the tier that actually includes TikTok.
  • A creative team that needs to save and brief, not just search → Foreplay, starting with the 7-day no-card trial.
  • Validating whether you need any of them → the free platform libraries, for one focused hour.
  • Amazon-internal ad intelligence → SmartScout Enterprise; nothing on this list substitutes for it.

FAQ

Is there a free BigSpy alternative? Yes — the platforms’ own ad libraries are free, and Meta and TikTok both publish one. They lack cross-network search, swipe files and shop data, but they are the current source that paid indexes read from.

Which BigSpy alternative is cheapest? Among the paid tools compared here on 2026-08-08, PiPiAds ($49/month on its promoted monthly price) and Minea ($49/month) are level at entry, with Foreplay at $59 and AdSpy at $149. BigSpy’s own entry tier is reported around $9/month by third-party sites, which we could not confirm on its pricing page.

Do any of these track Amazon Sponsored Products ads? No. All the social ad spy tools here index Meta, TikTok and similar networks. SmartScout carries Amazon competitor ad data, and its comparison table places Search Terms Ad Spy on the Enterprise tier only (checked 2026-08-08).

Is BigSpy safe to subscribe to? That is a billing question rather than a data question. Trustpilot carries a long run of one-star reviews reporting charges after cancellation and unanswered refund requests, spanning 2020 to 2026. Those are user reports we have not independently verified; read the current trial terms on the vendor’s site before entering payment details.
